Remove hookahs from the school's list of 'drug paraphernalia' and permit their use on campus.
The school lists hookahs (before bongs and pipes) as 'drug paraphernalia' and as such does not permit their use on campus. This is culturally insensitive as they are traditionally used for smoking tobacco and not illicit drugs.
As a point of hypocrisy, the school also lists 'rolling papers' as drug paraphernalia and yet they sell them at the on-campus 7-11.

We’ve met with Erin Gray, the Director of Student Conduct to talk about this issue. The origin of this mandate comes from many instances of finding illegal substances used in conjunction with hookahs. As a preventative measure, it was deemed that the school would not allow the possession of a hookah on campus grounds. That is why you’ve found it listed as drug paraphernalia in the Code of Conduct. However, she was receptive of the stigmatizing effect of this rule. The policy is now under review and we’ll make sure to update everyone as soon as we know more.

Change the course evaluation deadlines to after finals
I never have the time to give a meaningful evaluation before finals. After final grades are posted would be ideal because professors in small classes can still determine who wrote which review, even if the survey is anonymous.

offer cheaper and smaller portioned food around campus.
Sometimes, we don't want an entire meal, just a small snack but the prices for such things are way too high. 6 dollars for a burrito is too much. while it may be filling for a full meal, not everyone wants a full meal. We need more healthy food options that won't break the bank and are smaller portioned.

We have talked to the new greek advisor and she said they are aware of the issue and will work towards resolving it.
We will also set up a meeting with the office of resident life and see what we can do to resolve the issue before the upcoming changes to the greek housing policy.

Allow students free parking.
Currently it is incredibly over priced to own a parking pass for the lots. Seeing as these lots are free for all White Sox events. We, as paying students, should be entitled to at least the same accommodations.

We have contacted Residence and Greek Life about this matter. The respinse from RGL is as follows:
“The meal plan that is necessary to live in the residence halls is contracted through Sodexo. This would be something about which you would need to speak with Matt Mueller and Jean Bingham. The meal plan is part of the package so that student with busy schedules have time and access to well prepared and well balanced meals. After students’ first year on campus, they are eligible to move into a unit with a kitchen to prepare their own meals and not take part in a meal plan. Graduate students living in Graduate Hall in MSV are also able to have a partial meal plan.”
We’ll be contacting Dining as our next step in addressing this issue.

Replace Broken Keating Fitness Center Equipment.
All three barbells in the fitness center are bent to the point where they are uncomfortable and dangerous to use. These barbells need to be replaced as soon as possible. Straight bars are not an option, they are a requirement in any facility that claims to be a fitness center.
This is to say nothing of the lack of circular plates, bumper plates, and lifting platforms. The fitness center is woefully ill-equipped for IIT's serious athletes and this would be a start on the correct path to improve our school's athletic facilities

Just to clarify, is it just the barbells that need replacing, or are there more specific replacements that need to happen. If you could get pictures of equipment that needs replacing, that would greatly help in our surveying of the situation and representing this issue to the administration.
Thanks,

To have an area for recreational use that promotes student creativity.
To have some place on campus where students can do some type of artwork, music, photography and other things of that nature.
The school is always trying to promote creativity but i don't believe there is anywhere where students to do this.
Students aren't really allowed to go to Vandercook unless they are taking classes there, I know of a darkroom on campus for those who like photography but only architecture students can us it. And an area for students to have all sorts of things to just express creative freedom.
Also i think this would also be a great… more29 votes -
New Equipment in Classrooms.
I know the school is trying to find new innovative ways to make classes better and incorporate more technology to make it easier for students,
But what about all the old technology like laboratory equipment and supplies of that nature?
I think the school should invest some money in getting some new equipment that is essentially needed.25 votes -

implement more printing stations & improve the ones we do have.
I think we should have printing stations in ALL of the buildings. The printing stations we do have tend to break down often, & are far away from each other

Cheaper food in the center court for students that pay cash
People on meal plans can use their bonus points here that dont cost them a thing but if your paying cash a good lunch can be 15 to 20 dollars. for this price i can go to an actual restaurant and get a way better meal. also the food quality is not that good so i really dont see why we have to pay so much

Yes, Dinning services is planning to give Bonus Points at cheaper rates. For example: You will get $70 worth bonus points for $50 on your Hawk Card. (This is just a factious number to give you an example). You may see this happen in a year or so.

Increase swimming pool hours in Keating
The current IIT swimming pool hours are not very convenient to students having high credit loads. I wish there are more pool hours, specially in the afternoons, when there is no team practice.

Change the MyIIT Portal pictures
The pictures currently on the portal are currently of students or professors most people do not recognize. Instead, the pictures should be changed to recognizable pictures of the school, featuring events or places that make our school quirky and unique.

A well balanced education curriculum with both practical and theoretical based learning experiences.
Employers have stated that they do not like to recruit at IIT because the curriculum is strictly theoretically based. They have to retrain students from IIT because they do not get the practical experience they require when entering the world of work. This is so, whether it be for an internship, co-op or full-time employment.

Allow AirPrinting so that we can print documents from the iPad
I am not sure on how to implement it but I am sure it is possible. Since around 75% of undergrads next year are going to have iPads, it only make sense to be able to print from it wirelessly. This may require an AirPrinter to be installed in each building. Alternatively it is possible to do a workaround that makes the existing printers visible as AirPrinters or uses some app to allow printing.
The only real challenge would be connecting the iPad with the MyIIT student account in order to deduct the money from the printing credit.

Renovate MSV's Bathrooms.
The state of most of MSV's floor bathrooms is completely unacceptable for a 50 grand per year school like IIT. They are always dirty, and surfaces are ugly and worn. Also, having actual shower doors instead of curtains and properly locking toilet stall doors would be nice, if not necessary.
